I don't know if this is a common problem, but every time I want to alter the disk space in my MythTV box I run into this issue, and I haven't seen any docs on it on the web. Anyway, here's the problem:
My existing box has three drives which are LVM'd into 1 big logical volume:
80G (/dev/hda4)
120G (/dev/hdb1)
300G (/dev/hdc)
which works out to 500G or ~450G of usable space. I just bought a new 400G drive and I wanted to pull out the 120G and 300G drives and swap in the new 400G, freeing up the drives for other uses. Unfortunately, that means moving from 420G (120G + 300G) to 400G which LVM doesn't want to do. Even though I'm only using ~300G on the logical volume, there's no way to tell LVM which physical extents it can move and which it can drop. So here's the solution (which is slow but works)...

As you are of course aware, world famous big-butt aficionado Sir-Mix-A-Lot hails from the home of west coast hip-hop, Seattle. However, before he made millions encouraging the putting of 'em on the glass, he had a minor hit called "My Posse's on Broadway." The track details the beknighted mixer's travails with his group of friends through his Seattle neighborhood and their eventual arrival on Broadway. As luck would have it, our friend Heather lives just off of Broadway in Seattle and during our recent visit we took the opportunity to retrace the frequent mixer's steps and document our travals. You can find a less accurate (though officially sanctioned) video here.

They say those who can't do, teach. So it seems logical that those with nothing to teach, review. And according to that criteria I am approaching over qualified. It is under these inauspicious circumstances that I am pleased to inaugurate FandD reviews (though it should probably be clear by now that F aims to have nothing to do with it - but F her, she probably won't read this).

Apparently we've been up for over a year because our domain name expired a few days ago. The email our domain name reseller uses was out of date and because I think it's cool to run my own DNS I had no idea that no one outside of our network could see us (or email us). Anyway, Ari (hence forth referred to as The Man) alerted me to the fact and so I just renewed the Domain Name. If you are reading this you are either Fawn or the dns is back working.
Special thanks to The Man!!!
